Sergio Agüero said his goal after four minutes "helped to settle the team down" as Club Atlético de Madrid defeated Olympique de Marseille in the Vicente Calderón's first UEFA Champions League game for eleven years.

Nerve-settler
Having already struck twice in Atlético's opening Group D game against PSV Eindhoven, Agüero made it three goals in two matches as he put in a fine performance to help the Rojiblancos to a 2-1 win over Erik Gerets's men. "I'm really happy with my goal," said the Argentinian striker. "We won well and took three very important points." Agüero almost had a second moments after registering the opener but found Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda in fine form. "I made a quick decision where I tried to lift the ball into the net but it wouldn't go in," the 20-year-old added.

Cautious words
With two wins from two, Atlético coach Javier Aguirre could not have wished for a better start for his side's return to Europe's premier club competition and with Liverpool FC next to visit the Spanish capital on 22 October, many believe another big scalp could be on the cards. Nevertheless, Agüero urged caution at what is still an early stage of the campaign. "We must take this step by step, remain calm and hope that things continue to go our way," he said. "The important thing right now is that we are playing well and that's what is allowing us to win."

Two fronts
Prior to the match, Aguirre stated that his influential No10 had not been 100 per cent fit during the team's previous games. However, if 'El Kun' continues to perform like he did against OM, then the Mexican coach might not be able to consider resting the player, particularly with an important Liga game against FC Barcelona looming at the weekend. Agüero, though, believes he can handle the dual demands of domestic and UEFA Champions League football: "I'm a little bit tired, that's true, but we have two-and-a-half days to rest and I expect I'll be ready for Saturday, which is a big game for us against Barcelona. Hopefully we can win."
