Versatile German international Clemens Fritz has extended his contract with UEFA Champions League hopefuls Werder Bremen for three years until summer 2012.
Title ambitions
Fritz, 27, arrived at Bremen from Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2006 and has gone on to make 63 Bundesliga appearances for the club. Bremen's sporting director Klaus Allofs said: "Clemens is a very important player for Werder and has managed to get into the national team during his stay here. Not only is he important on the pitch, but he's a popular figure off it."
'Best club'
The former Karlsruher SC man, who can play in midfield and defence, added: "I came here to win titles and even though that has not happened yet, I am convinced that Werder are the best club for me to continue pursuing this goal and that we will achieve it together." Bremen are third in UEFA Champions League Group B with three points from as many matches and host Panathinaikos FC in their next fixture on 4 November.
