The injury concerns of European champions Manchester United FC grew after the club revealed that midfielder Anderson and centre-back Jonny Evans will be out for three weeks with ankle complaints.

Double blow
Both players picked up their respective problems in United's 4-2 League Cup semi-final win against Derby County FC on Tuesday. Anderson, 20, was carried off on a stretcher but a scan alleviated initial fears of a serious injury. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "There's no break, but there was some ligament damage. We think he'll be out for three weeks." The 21-year-old Evans, who has impressed since stepping in for the injured Rio Ferdinand last month, played the full 90 minutes, but was visibly struggling towards the end of the tie.

Busy treatment room
With Wes Brown, Patrice Evra and Ferdinand still out of action, Evans's knock leaves United short in defence especially as Brazilian full-back Rafael also limped off before half-time against Derby. Sir Alex confirmed that Portugal winger Nani would be out for a week while Wayne Rooney, Ji-Sung Park (both hamstring) remain sidelined. The Premier League leaders, who are in action against Tottenham Hotspur FC in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, play FC Internazionale Milano in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round on 24 February and 11 March.
