Sporting Clube de Portugal have secured the future of highly regarded centre-back Daniel Carriço after the 20-year-old added three years to his contract, tying himself to the UEFA Champions League hopefuls until summer 2013.
Breakthrough season
Carriço has been on Sporting's books since he was eleven and has established himself in the side this season having spent last term on loan at second-tier SC Olhanense and then AEL Limassol FC in Cyprus. He made his debut for the Lisbon outfit as a substitute in the 0-0 draw at FC Paços de Ferreira on 26 October and has missed only two games in all competitions since, convincing the club to offer him fresh terms. "I am very happy," said the Portuguese Under-21 international, who made his UEFA Champions League debut in the 5-2 defeat by FC Barcelona at the end of November. "It was and will continue to be an enormous pride to represent this club."
