United States international Landon Donovan will return to Los Angeles Galaxy this weekend after failing to make an impact during a loan spell with FC Bayern München. Despite scoring four times in five friendly matches over the winter break, Bayern were unwilling to make the move permanent.

'Positive time'
"I will go back with a good feeling anyway," said the 27-year-old attacker, who joined Bayern on loan in January. "Even though I had expected better results it was a positive time for me in Germany. I thank coach [Jürgen] Klinsmann for giving me the chance to play for one of the best clubs in Europe, but now I'm looking forward to the matches in the MLS and seeing my team-mates again."

Substitute
Donovan, who also had two earlier spells in Germany with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, made five substitute appearances for Bayern in the Bundesliga and also featured in the German Cup win against VfB Stuttgart on 27 January. Bayern host Sporting Clube de Portugal in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie on Tuesday leading 5-0.
