Fabricio Fuentes has followed the lead of Javi Venta and Robert Pirés by signing a one-year contract extension with UEFA Champions League contenders Villarreal CF, keeping him at El Madrigal until 30 June 2010.

Fabricio Fuentes has followed the lead of team-mates Javi Venta and Robert Pirés by signing a one-year contract extension with UEFA Champions League contenders Villarreal CF, keeping him at El Madrigal until 30 June 2010.

'Very happy'
Venta and Pirés agreed similar deals on Thursday, extending terms due to expire in the summer. "I'm very happy at Villarreal, staying here was my first priority," said the 32-year-old centre-back. "This season didn't start well for me because I suffered an injury and it was very difficult to get fit again. I was about to leave the team in the winter but now I'm happy because I'm playing again which gives me a lot of confidence." Villarreal host Arsenal FC in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday.
