In the words of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo it was "Truly a night to remember" while Spain's Marca described Chelsea FC's 4-4 draw with Liverpool FC in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final as "A tribute to football". As the dust settles on a thrilling match, uefa.com rounds up the newspaper reaction across Europe as the press "revel in a truly sensational night" at Stamford Bridge.

Phwoar Phwoar!
Mad, bad, brilliant ... Blues win it, lose it and, finally, win it

Daily Mirror, England
Don't even try to explain this, don't even think about working it out. Just sit back, reflect, remember – and imagine what Guus Hiddink and Rafa Benítez went through. Liverpool came within a hair's breadth of pulling off a Champions League feat to arguably surpass the miracle of Istanbul. A tie which seemed dead and buried before kick-off underwent a resurrection that will never be forgotten whatever happens in the rest of the tournament. We should all revel in a truly sensational night.

Now that's football! It was fantastic
L'Equipe, France
Some people may be bored by seeing massive and now regular English representation in the final stages of the Champions League. We're not one of them provided we can attend games like this every year. Last season there were two wonderful Liverpool-Arsenal games in the quarter-finals, but they were bettered by the two Chelsea-Liverpool ties this month which will add to the fascination of the Premier League. That is because at Anfield six days ago and at Stamford Bridge yesterday the show was breathtaking.

Russian roulette for Guus
In the fatal game with Liverpool, Chelsea fired the final shot
Soviet Sport, Russia
The match which should have been nothing but a formality for Guus Hiddink's team after a 3-1 victory in the first leg became a game of nerves. Liverpool twice were a step away from the semi-finals, but in the end it was Chelsea who advanced.

A Monument to Football
Marca, Spain
A crazy game that could have gone either way ended with a spectacular 4-4 scoreline that saw the Blues progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League. With the game at 3-2 and everything apparently decided, Chelsea and Liverpool forgot the tactical chalkboard and began an end-to-end attacking thriller that none of us wanted to end. It was a tribute to football.

Blues shine brighter
O Jogo, Portugal
Stamford Bridge witnessed a mesmerising night of pure emotion and some spectacular football which produced eight goals. Chelsea are through to the last four but Liverpool can take some comfort from the fact they were a completely different team from the one that had lost 3-1 at home last week. Chelsea fans had to wait until the 89th minute to finally celebrate. It was truly a night to remember.

Chelsea-Liverpool is worth shouting about: 4-4 at Stamford Bridge!
Tuttosport, Italy
It is not possible to expect a normal game between Chelsea and Liverpool, and once again we saw it last night at Stamford Bridge. The return leg ended in a 4-4 draw and Guus Hiddink's side qualified for the semi-final, but Rafa Benítez can take heart from his players' performance. Even so the Reds will have many regrets after leading 2-0 in the first half and 4-3 in the second. In any case football fans were lucky enough to watch an incredible show.

Chelsea wins crazy mega duel
Berliner Kurier, Germany
What a blast! A game that had all the emotions, beauty, drama and art of football. [The] 35,000 [crowd] at Stamford Bridge did not believe their eyes when Aurélio's magic free-kick and an Alonso penalty gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead and the tie was about to turn. What a crazy, incredible mega duel.
