Just a week after joining FC Dynamo Kyiv, Brazilian centre-back Leandro Almeida has sustained knee ligament damage which could rule him out for up to eight weeks.

Friendly
The former CA Mineiro captain, 22, penned a five-year contract on 29 June but was injured in his first friendly outing for the Ukrainian club as they lost 3-2 to FC Lokomotiv Moskva on 4 July. Doctors expect Leandro Almeida to return to training in six to eight weeks, meaning he could miss the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage on 15 September.

Key dates
Of more immediate concern to new coach Valeri Gazzaev is Saturday's Super Cup against FC Vorskla Poltava and the start of Dynamo's Premier League defence at home to FC Chornomorets Odesa the following week. Central defenders Pape Diakhate, Goran Sabljić and Taras Mikhalik are also sidelined along with left-back Andriy Nesmachniy and playmaker Artem Kravets.
