PSV Eindhoven have granted Ecuador midfielder Edison Méndez's request to return to LDU de Quito in his homeland following three years with the Dutch club.
'Grateful'
The 30-year-old was under contract until the end of this season, but PSV agreed to let him go early. "I spent three wonderful seasons at a club I consider great," Méndez said. "I am grateful the club have complied with my request to return home. I made a lot of friends in Eindhoven and will always have a special bond with PSV."
Successful stint
PSV coach Fred Rutten described Méndez as "a true professional" and added: "We knew he wanted to return home to his family and we sympathised with his predicament. I worked with him for only a short time but he deserves all the recognition that comes his way." Méndez joined PSV from Liga de Quito after ten years playing in Ecuador and Mexico. He won the Eredivisie title in 2007 and 2008, scoring nine goals in 72 league games. PSV visit PFC Cherno More Varna on Thursday in their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round decider, leading 1-0 from the first leg.
