FC Bayern München will be denied the services of midfielder Mark van Bommel for up to a month after the Dutch international broke a toe during the club's 1-1 draw at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Surgery scheduled
The 32-year-old was forced to leave the pitch with nine minutes remaining of Bayern's opening Bundesliga fixture this term and he is set to undergo surgery on Monday. "It's infuriating to get injured like this when I'd started the season so well," he said. The former FC Barcelona player, who joins Martín Demichelis and Luca Toni on the sidelines, ought to be back in time for his side's first UEFA Champions League group-stage fixture on 15/16 September.
