Gattuso blow for club and country

A twisted ankle sustained in Saturday's derby against FC Internazionale Milano has ruled AC Milan's Gennaro Gattuso out of Italy's FIFA World Cup qualifers away to Georgia and home to Bulgaria on 5 and 9 September respectively, while the combative midfielder is doubtful for his club's UEFA Champions League group-stage opener at Olympique de Marseille.

Triple blow
Gattuso, who conceded a penalty for Inter's second in the 4-0 victory for Jose Mourinho's side and was later sent off having picked up two yellow cards, is expected to be unavailable for two weeks, meaning the opening game of Milan's European campaign on 15 September could come too soon. FC Zürich and Real Madrid CF are also in UEFA Champions League Group C with the Rossoneri.
