Metzelder out, Alonso a doubt

Christoph Metzelder is expected to miss Real Madrid CF's Matchday 2 game against Olympique de Marseille with a calf injury, and a similar problem means Xabi Alonso is a doubt.

Madrid say Alonso will not play in their upcoming Liga games against Xerez CD and Villarreal CF after suffering heavy bruising to his right calf in Tuesday's 5-2 win at FC Zürich. The 28-year-old Metzelder, meanwhile, missed the Zürich match and has been told he faces up to a further three weeks on the sidelines with bruising to his right leg, meaning he is likely to miss the Marseille home game on 30 September.
