Swiss international goalkeeper Diego Benaglio has extended his contract with UEFA Champions League contenders VfL Wolfsburg by one year until summer 2013.
New deals
The German champions announced the news in a statement two days ahead of the Group B visit of Beşiktaş JK. Benaglio, 26, has played 55 games for the club since a January 2008 switch from CD Nacional, the former Grasshopper-Club goalkeeper having previously been at VfB Stuttgart from 2002 until 2005. He follows Edin Džeko, Grafite, Josué, Alexander Madlung, Sascha Riether and Zvjezdan Misimović in signing new Wolfsburg contracts in recent months.
Veh praise
"Diego Benaglio is an important pillar of our team," Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh said. "We are pleased that we have been able to tie another key player to the club." Benaglio added: "I feel at home at VfL and am looking forward to further cooperation. We have an ambitious team and I want to do my share in establishing VfL at the top of the Bundesliga and at international level."
