European challenge lures two to CSKA

UEFA Champions League hopefuls PFC CSKA Moskva have confirmed two signings by sealing 'long term' deals for FC Moskva defender Kirill Nababkin and FC Sibir Novosibirsk goalkeeper Sergei Chepchugov.

Tough decision
Former Russian Under-21 international Nababkin started his career with Moskva, making his debut in 2005 and appearing in 64 league matches. "It is a difficult decision to change team," said the 23-year-old. "But CSKA are a very fine club with big traditions and they are playing in Europe. That is why this transfer was important for me. I hope to win trophies with CSKA and I am eager to participate in the Champions League."

Akinfeev rival
Chepchugov played for FC Metallurg Krasnoyarsk, FC Sibiryak Bratsk and FK Riga before joining Sibir in August 2008. He helped them to finish runners-up in the Russian second tier and gain promotion last season. "It was my best year as a player," said the 24-year-old, who will compete with current No1 Igor Akinfeev. "I conceded just 21 goals and kept 24 clean sheets. I decided that I have to rise to a new level. I want to achieve results both in Russia and Europe with CSKA." CSKA finished fifth in the league, earning a berth in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League, while the Army Men play Sevilla FC in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
