Sevilla FC defender Sergio Sánchez has been ruled out of action for an unspecified period after club doctors discovered that the 23-year-old is suffering from a heart complaint.

Further investigation
While preparing for their return to Liga action against Club Atlético de Madrid on Saturday, Sevilla released a statement informing that Sánchez would be spending time with his family in Barcelona before undergoing further medical tests in the coming days. "Having closely studied the results of the latest examinations carried out on the player it has been determined that Sergio Sánchez is suffering from a heart problem and as such it is advisable that he cease from physical exertion for the time being," the statement said.

Summer signing
The summer signing from RCD Espanyol has featured in seven Liga games for Manuel Jiménez's side this season with a further three appearances coming in the UEFA Champions League, where Sevilla won Group G to earn a first knockout round date with PFC CSKA Moskva.
