Brazilian striker André has joined UEFA Champions League third qualifying round contenders FC Dynamo Kyiv from Santos FC for €8.1m on a five-year contract, having scored seven goals in 14 league games for the Brazilian side.
"As soon as I got the offer from Dynamo, I decided to go to Ukraine to join the UEFA Champions League regulars," explained André, who will arrive in Kyiv on 6 August after the Brazilian Cup final.
Other clubs were interested in André, but fellow Brazilians Gérson Magrão, Betão and Leandro Almeida persuaded him to come to Dynamo. "All of them only had good things to say about Dynamo," he explained. "And it is an honour to be a team-mate of Andriy Shevchenko."
Unlike the club's other new signings, Argentinian midfielder Facundo Bertoglio and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia defender Goran Popov, André will not be able to play in the third qualifying round, though club president Ihor Surkis hopes to have him available should Dynamo reach the play-offs.
"I hope André is the player we need and that he will score a lot of goals for us," said Surkis. "We paid €8.1m for him with his contract to run from 6 August."
