Five different players were on target as FC Salzburg all but assured their place in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round with a resounding victory against Faroese opponents HB Tórshavn.

Huub Stevens's side were three up by the 46th minute of the first leg in Austria courtesy of strikes from Gonzalo Zárate, Jakob Jantscher and a long-range shot from defender Andreas Ulmer. Roman Wallner's simple finish increased the lead just past the hour, 19-year-old substitute Stefan Hierländer completing the scoring eight minutes from time at the second attempt after his initial effort had struck the crossbar.

HB were up against it from the off, though it was not until the 21st minute that Salzburg managed to prise their visitors open, Zárate applying the finishing touch to Ulmer's dribble and cross from the left. Wallner's deflected shot then struck a post but that proved merely a temporary reprieve for the visitors as Jantscher converted another delivery from the left, Dušan Švento this time providing the assist two minutes before the break.

Forty seconds after the interval Ulmer's 25-metre effort, which sailed over the helpless Marcin Dawid, made it three, before Wallner got in on the act on 63 minutes after neat interplay between substitute Simon Cziommer and Zárate. Ulmer capped an enterprising performance with his second assist of the night late on, crossing for Hierländer to finish off the scoring seven minutes after entering the fray.
