Olympique Lyonnais will be deprived of the services of midfielder Éderson when they begin their UEFA Champions League campaign after the Brazilian ruptured his left hamstring on his international debut.
The 24-year-old came on as a 72nd-minute substitute during Brazil's 2-0 victory over the United States in New Jersey on Tuesday but lasted only three minutes of the friendly. Lyon confirmed the extent of the damage on Thursday and the former OGC Nice schemer, who made 24 Ligue 1 appearances last term, will undergo surgery on Monday. The duration of his lay-off will be determined at a later date. Les Gones start their European challenge in the UEFA Champions League group stage in September.
