Rangers FC forward Kyle Lafferty looks certain to miss the Scottish titleholders' remaining UEFA Champions League Group C fixtures after breaking a bone in his hand in what the club called "a freak accident".

The 23-year-old, capped 28 times by Northern Ireland, is a confirmed absentee for tonight's game against Manchester United FC at Ibrox and most likely their Matchday 6 trip to Bursaspor too.

The Glasgow outfit said Lafferty had suffered "a freak accident" in training to add his name to an injury list already featuring Nikica Jelavić, Maurice Edu and Madjid Bougherra, all of whom are expected to sit out Rangers' final Group C matches. Saša Papac will also skip the United encounter with a head injury. Walter Smith's side are third in the standings.
