Mathieu Valbuena's participation in the first leg of Olympique de Marseille's UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie at home to Manchester United FC next month is in doubt after he damaged left knee ligaments in training.

The 26-year-old sustained the injury on Saturday morning and although further tests are pending, it is expected that the French international playmaker will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Valbuena featured in all of OM's Group F matches, scoring one goal, as Didier Deschamps' team finished second behind Chelsea FC. Marseille host United on 23 February, with the return taking place on 15 March.
