Manchester City FC and Real Madrid CF have agreed terms on the loan of Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor to the Santiago Bernabéu until the end of the season.

Adebayor, 26, will complete the move pending a medical on Wednesday, with Madrid having first option on a permanent transfer in the summer. The former Arsenal FC and AS Monaco FC striker's arrival will help temper the loss of Gonzalo Higuaín to a back injury which could rule him out until May. Adebayor switched to the City of Manchester Stadium in summer 2009 and has since scored 15 goals in 34 Premier League appearances.

José Mourinho's Madrid side finished top of UEFA Champions League Group G and meet Olympique Lyonnais in the round of 16 on 22 February and 16 March. City play Greek club Aris Thessaloniki FC in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.
