Milito misses Bayern visit with thigh strain

Diego Milito misses the home first leg of FC Internazionale Milano's tie with FC Bayern München and is a doubt for the return trip to the club he scored twice against in last year's final.

Diego Milito will miss the first leg of FC Internazionale Milano's UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against FC Bayern München after suffering a thigh strain during their 5-3 win against AS Roma on Sunday.

Milito, who scored both goals when Inter defeated the German side 2-0 in last season's final in Madrid, came on as a substitute with 20 minutes to play against Roma and sustained the injury just before the final whistle. Tests have confirmed that the forward incurred a second-degree strain to his left thigh, which is expected to keep him sidelined for a month, meaning he will sit out the Bayern first leg in Milan on 23 February and is also doubtful for the away return on 15 March.

"Diego must be calm and put the injury out of his mind," said Inter coach Leonardo, who also has Dejan Stanković and Lúcio out of action. "He has nothing to prove and knows how important he is for Inter. He needs to relax and work to recover in the best possible way." This latest setback is the fourth muscle injury of the season for the 31-year-old Argentina striker, who has been limited to 16 games in Serie A and two in the UEFA Champions League.
