AFC Ajax have announced the signing of winger Derk Boerrigter from RKC Waalwijk.

The left-sided 24-year-old moves for an undisclosed fee, having agreed a contract until June 2014. Boerrigter was previously on Ajax's books between 2005 and 2007 after joining from the FC Twente academy, yet he was loaned to HFC Haarlem without making a Dutch Eredivisie appearance and later sold to FC Zwolle. Waalwijk recruited him in 2009 and Boerrigter helped them win promotion as 2010/11 Eerste Divisie champions, scoring 18 goals.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer, whose side will enter the UEFA Champions League group stage after topping the Eredivisie, said: "I am happy he is joining us. Derk has developed very well in recent years. His advantage is that he already knows the club. With him we will have more options on the wings. I have faith he will get even better."
