SSC Napoli have strengthened their midfield with the signing of midfielder Gökhan Inler from fellow Serie A contenders and UEFA Champions League hopefuls Udinese Calcio.

The 27-year-old, whose arrival was announced at the unveiling of Napoli's official kit for the forthcoming season, has agreed a five-year deal after joining for a reported €15m fee. He becomes the second Swiss international to arrive at the Stadio San Paolo this month after Blerim Dzemaili joined from Parma FC – also on a five-year contract.

"Joining this club is the climax of my football career," said the combative former FC Zürich midfielder, who leaves Udine after 141 Serie A appearances and six league goals in four years with the Friulani. "I'll do my very best to take Napoli as far as I can. I've been wanting to come here for a long time and today a new chapter in my life is beginning. I'll give all I can on the pitch to please these wonderful fans."

Napoli will begin their UEFA Champions League campaign at the group stage after finishing third in Serie A last term, four points ahead of Udinese, who will attempt to join the Partenopei by successfully negotiating the play-offs.
