• John Burridge becomes the oldest player to take to the pitch at 43 years 162 days when he starts Manchester City FC's final league game of the season, a 3-2 defeat by Queens Park Rangers FC at Maine Road.

• Despite beating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 to move top of the Bundesliga in May, defeat by FC Bayern München on the final day of the season eventually hands the title to Ottmar Hitzfeld's Dortmund side, 2-0 victors against Hamburger SV, by a solitary point.
