Borussia Dortmund's Germany left-back Marcel Schmelzer looks to be a serious doubt for the UEFA Champions League Group F game at Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday week.
Schmelzer, 23, suffered a thigh tear during Dortmund's 2-1 defeat away to Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga on Sunday. A scan has confirmed the full extent of the injury, which makes Schmelzer – ever-present in Dortmund's title-winning campaign last term – unlikely to resume training until the start of next week at the earliest.
Jürgen Klopp's side opened their UEFA Champions League challenge with a 1-1 home draw with Arsenal FC. After next week's trip to southern France, they visit Olympiacos FC on 19 October.
