Bayer 04 Leverkusen will be without Brazilian international playmaker Renato Augusto for the UEFA Champions League visit of Valencia CF on 19 October after being ruled out for "several weeks" with a knee problem.

Augusto, 23, has been troubled by his kneecap for some time and after consulting with Leverkusen doctors will travel to Rio de Janeiro this week to undergo keyhole surgery conducted by José Luiz Runco, doctor of the Brazilian national team. He will then return to Leverkusen and a club statement estimated his absence at "several weeks".

That would sideline Augusto for the Valencia home game and possibly the 1 November return in Spain. After losing 2-0 at Chelsea FC and then beating KRC Genk 2-0, Leverkusen lie second in Group E.
