Neven Subotić will miss the rest of 2011 after sustaining a facial fracture in Borussia Dortmund's 5-1 Bundesliga victory against VfL Wolfsburg.

The 22-year-old, who has played every minute for the Schwarzgelben in the UEFA Champions League this season, suffered the injury in a clash with Sotirios Kyrgiakos shortly before half-time on Saturday and was replaced at the break by Felipe Santana.

The defender went to hospital and will undergo surgery in the coming days, ruling him out for the remainder of the year. Dortmund are third in Group F, three points behind second-placed Olympique de Marseille and four shy of Arsenal FC, their matchday five opponents on 23 November.
