Heynckes backs Bayern against fiery Napoli

Jupp Heynckes said FC Bayern München are "so dominant that our opponents should set themselves to counter us" as he prepared for another fast, fervent display from SSC Napoli.

Two points clear of their visitors in Group A, FC Bayern München welcome SSC Napoli to a stadium which Partenopei coach Walter Mazzarri says would have given them "goose bumps" even if this were only a pre-season game.

Coach Jupp Heynckes

Napoli are not a normal Italian side. I saw their last league game at Catania and they played just the same way they played against us [on matchday three]. They are very disciplined and above all very aggressive; they run a lot and that makes them difficult opponents. Their coach rested five regulars from the starting XI so they would be fresh for this game, so that shows they have ambition. We have different tactical options and we don't compromise depending to our opponents; Bayern are so dominant that our opponents should set themselves to counter us.

The most important thing is team harmony; Bayern have played great football as a team, but we also have great individuals who can decide a game. What is important for me is that the team is motivated, prepared and focused and that they go into the game at full throttle. We can also be patient and vary the rhythm over 90 minutes, which is something only top sides can do.

Weekend result
Saturday: Bayern 4-0 1. FC Nürnberg
 (Gomez 2 68, Schweinsteiger 19, Ribéry 39)
Neuer; Rafinha, Van Buyten, Badstuber, Lahm; Tymoshchuk, Schweinsteiger (Alaba 71); Müller (Olić 77), Kroos (Luiz Gustavo 74), Ribéry; Gomez

• Heynckes's side have won 13 of their last 16 games in all competitions, scoring 44 goals and conceding three. Mario Gomez's second goal was his 50th in the league for Bayern.

Team news
Arjen Robben has not featured since undergoing groin surgery on 7 October. Breno, out since having a knee operation on 11 May, is yet to play this season. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Daniel Van Buyten are nursing minor knocks, but Heynckes said: "I am assuming that they will both start tomorrow."

Just think that [Bayern] are a club who provide five candidates out of the 50 for the Ballon d'Or. I don't know how many Barcelona have, but I think only they and Bayern can have this kind of record. When we went to Manchester, it was the same situation and you know what happened.

We are in a group, and we all tend to forget this, which, when it was drawn, everybody said we would maybe get one or two points at best from our first three games. We have done something extraordinary. We came into this group as the fourth seeds and we are already above Villarreal and also Manchester City. This was not expected and it is exceptional, and all we do from now on is a bonus. If we managed to get through this group, it would be extraordinary and, in my opinion, historic.

I am curious to see how the lads perform in a stadium which, even if we had only come here to play a friendly match in pre-season, would have given our players goose bumps.

Weekend result
Saturday: Calcio Catania 2-1 Napoli (Marchese 25, Bergessio 48; Cavani 1)

De Sanctis; Fernández, Cannavaro, Fideleff (Maggio 59); Zúñiga, Inler, Santana, Dossena (Hamšík 68); Mascara (Dzemaili 49), Lavezzi; Cavani

• Edinson Cavani opened the scoring after just 32 seconds – his first goal in five outings for the club – but Mario Santana was dismissed two minutes before half-time as Napoli lost in Sicily.

Team news
Walter Gargano was ruled out for three to four weeks with a left thigh injury on 23 October. Goran Pandev has not played since 1 October because of a muscle strain, while Marco Donadel, who also has an injured thigh, is yet to play this season.

Match fact
Bayern have won nine of their last ten UEFA Champions League home outings, including 2-0 successes against FC Zürich and Manchester City FC this season. The only blip was their defeat by FC Internazionale Milano in last season's last 16, when an 88th-minute goal by Pandev, now a Napoli player, inflicted a 3-2 loss and elimination on away goals.
