Málaga CF have moved to fill the void left by Arsenal FC-bound full-back Nacho Monreal by snapping up Portuguese international defender Antunes on loan from FC Paços de Ferreira.
The 25-year-old – who last summer returned for second spell with Paços Ferreira, fourth in the Liga – will remain at La Rosaleda until the end of the season. The Costa del Sol club will then have the option to make the deal permanent.
After beginning his career with SC Freamunde, Antunes signed for Paços Ferreira before stints at AS Roma, US Lecce, Leixões SC, AS Livorno Calcio and Greek side Panionios GSS. Capped three times by Portugal, the left-back also featured for his country at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Antunes joins fellow newcomers Pedro Morales, Lucas Piazón and Diego Lugano as Málaga continue preparations for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against FC Porto, the first leg of which takes place at the Estádio do Dragão on 19 February.
