Late setbacks fail to dampen PSG satisfaction

Coach Carlo Ancelotti said Paris Saint-Germain FC "have to be happy" with a 2-1 win at Valencia CF despite conceding late and then having Zlatan Ibrahimović sent off.

PSG were very strong. Every counterattack they created lots of danger for us. The truth is that maybe we were too naive, losing possession too much, which unbalanced the game. We possibly made PSG's task a little easier. But we scored a goal at the end and we had other chances, so that gives us hope.

In the first half we played too narrow. We knew that their strength was on the break. We must take into account that they have extraordinary players. The return will be difficult based on the strength they showed here. We have to look to score over there. We have to go there and try, because although the scoreline is far from positive, this tie is by no means finished.

We played really well, we have to be happy, but the end of the game was not good for us. Valencia are a good team. We have just played the first half and now we have the second at home [on 6 March], which will be better for us, but we have to pay attention.

There was no complacency at the end of the game. We had chances to score a third before [their goal]. At the end there was the free-kick, which we know they are good at, and they scored from it. Overall we demonstrated good quality and a good attitude – my team deserved to win.

[David] Beckham has trained alone for a week and tomorrow he starts with his team-mates. He doesn't have a problem fitness-wise and he will help us to get better. I don't know if he will feature in Sochaux [this weekend]. I think Lucas [who went off with a swollen ankle] is OK. He has a bruise, though I hope he will be OK.

PSG looked stronger than us tonight and as well as that we made their task a little easier. However, the goal at the end gives us hope and although we know the scoreline is not a good one to be taking to Paris, this tie is by no means finished.
