Congratulations to my team. It was noticeable right from the start that they desperately wanted to win this match. It was fantastic. We fought for everything on the pitch. In the second half we managed a more controlled performance. We created several chances, and in the end it worked out. We rewarded ourselves with this goal. Everything we planned came together.

After our great display in the first half we realised we could get a result. It obviously helped us that Chelsea wanted to play football themselves and not just sit deep. This allowed us to find gaps. To beat Chelsea twice is historic for this club. I'm extremely happy for the team and for everyone who was at the stadium to witness it. It would not have been fair if the game had ended in a draw or, even worse, if we had lost, which is always a possibility against a team like Chelsea.

Our fans pushed us forward throughout the 90 minutes. They wanted this victory just as much as we did. Mourinho told me after the game that we deserved to win. That's a nice gesture. The team have earned a 'final' against Schalke. We are actually ahead of them in the standings after this game. We know that a tough task awaits us in Gelsenkirchen but it's great to still be in the hunt for a spot in the next round.

Football finds ways to surprise me every day. That's why we always look ahead to the next task. When I looked at my players in the dressing room today, I felt we could have a good evening if all the pieces fell into place. It's truly special to win against Chelsea for a second time. But this was our fourth encounter with them in a relatively short time, so we aren't too uncomfortable playing against them.

A bad performance, a deserved defeat – but because of other results we qualify mathematically for the last 16. Now we have to get a result at home to finish first, so that is the only positive thing.

I didn't like it from the first minute. We started with a defensive mistake immediately, the first time we were in the game we made a defensive mistake; I think we only had a little bit of stability and control in the second half but I felt the team was tired. The team paid the price for their international 15 days.

The match against West Ham [on Saturday] was crucial and everyone played a great intense game but today we paid a price; they were tired. There was no reaction, wrong decisions – so I am not so sad with them as I understand. The team was not fresh and maybe I should have made more changes.

We should have got a better result than this but I don't blame the players. We have to rest and prepare for the game at the weekend because even with the defeat, [with] nine points we are through. That's the minimum we could do and now we have to fight for first position.
