Dante and Thiago Alcántara struck in the first 22 minutes in Marrakesh as FC Bayern München ended 2013 with a fifth major trophy – the FIFA Club World Cup.

Having clinched the German double and the UEFA Champions League under Jupp Heynckes, Bayern have now won two trophies under new boss Josep Guardiola, with their Club World Cup success against Moroccan champions Raja Casablanca following a UEFA Super Cup victory against Chelsea FC back in August. The victory represented Guardiola's third triumph in the competition, following two previous successes with FC Barcelona.

Bayern got off to an excellent start and were in front after just seven minutes, with Jérôme Boateng winning a header nearly 20 metres out and allowing Dante to control, turn and fire the ball into the top corner. Thomas Müller might have broken the deadlock earlier, but the Bundesliga side made it 2-0 after 22 minutes, with David Alaba finding space on the left and crossing for Thiago to side-foot into the net from the edge of the box.

Dante passed up a chance to make it 3-0 on 34 minutes, and almost let Raja in before the break. The African champions upped their game after the interval as Guardiola's side relaxed the pace a little, but Xherdan Shaqiri came close to adding a third goal, hitting the bar from close range just after the hour mark. Raja pressed for a consolation at the death, but Bayern weathered the storm comfortably.
