Manchester City FC have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Willy Caballero from Málaga CF on a three-year contract.

The 32-year-old Argentinian moves for an undisclosed fee and is reunited with City manager Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean tactician had brought Caballero to Málaga in early 2011 and the pair enjoyed a fruitful time together, helping the southern Spanish team to fourth in the 2011/12 Liga and a historic first qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Willy announced himself on the big stage with a series of top-class performances as Pellegrini's side went on to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals where they were edged out by Dorussia Dortmund.

"I am very happy and really looking forward to the start of pre-season," Willy told the English champions' website. "This is a new challenge and a new league for me. I have been doing well in recent years and my goal is to perform at the same level for City.

"I know I am coming to a big club with a very good goalkeeper," added the former CA Boca Juniors and Elche CF custodian. "City already have a great goalkeeper in Joe Hart, but I will try and compete for the No1 spot. I will do my best in training."

Willy is City's third summer recruit following Bacary Sagna and Fernando. Pellegrini had been looking for a new keeper to provide competition for Hart since Costel Pantilimon left for Sunderland AFC at the end of last season.
