Next match: Shakhtar Donetsk v BATE (5 November)

Luiz Adriano, Shakhtar forward
I'm happy to have scored five goals and to know that I was man of the match. I want to thank my team-mates because they helped me to score those goals and to play so well tonight.

I'm just happy about scoring five goals in the match. They are all the most beautiful for me. It was very special for me to score five times. I think the first one [was my favourite].

Scoring a hat-trick in a game is fantastic; scoring five goals is immense. I can now say that I've scored five times in a Champions League game.

Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar coach
First of all, these are three very important points and we have seen an exciting game, especially in the first half. We thoroughly analysed our opponents and managed to put that into practice. I think Athletic did not do the homework we did and were punished as a result.

We pressed BATE in their half of the pitch and they answered with dangerous counterattacks. We had the game under control. I made three substitutions during the break to give more players the chance to taste the Champions League.

I think it is an appropriate result and even an appropriate scoreline on the basis of today's game. Our lads learned proper lessons after the 2-2 draw against Porto [after conceding twice in the final four minutes]. However, I expect to see a different BATE in our next game. No doubt about that.

Aleksandr Yermakovich, BATE
It is hard to say when we saw the real BATE – today or against Athletic. The reason for our defeat is a lack of quality as the young players cannot play at the same level all the time.

Of course I didn't expect this kind of game. But we can only blame ourselves as we made too many mistakes and this amount of errors is totally unacceptable at this level – you will be punished. It is not the right time to draw major conclusions, however.

We have enough time ahead of the game in Ukraine. Of course we will try to rehabilitate ourselves, but it is really hard to make wider comments now. UEFA Champions League regulars cannot be a one-man team – I do not think the presence of [injured centre-back] Egor Filipenko would have changed the result.
