Chelsea and City share spoils, Bayern stunned

The big game in England ended 1-1 between Chelsea FC and Manchester City FC, FC Bayern München were handed a surprise loss and Spain's leading trio all won.

All eyes were on Stamford Bridge during another frenetic weekend of action as Chelsea FC recorded a 1-1 draw with Manchester City FC that kept José Mourinho's men five points clear of their fellow UEFA Champions League hopefuls. In Germany, the Bundesliga season resumed with a shock loss for pacesetters FC Bayern München to VfL Wolfsburg, while the top three won in Spain and AS Monaco FC held Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyonnais to a goalless draw.

Paris Saint-Germain stayed in touch with Olympique Lyonnais at the top of Ligue 1 thanks to a 1-0 home win against Stade Rennais FC, Ezequiel Lavezzi providing the winner.
• Loïc Rémy put Chelsea ahead against nearest rivals Manchester City, but it finished 1-1 as the Blues maintained their five-point cushion.

FC Shakhtar Donetsk continued their winter break with a training camp in Spain and face a friendly against GNK Dinamo Zagreb on Monday.
• Wolfsburg stunned Bayern as the Bundesliga returned with a bang, Bas Dost and Kevin De Bruyne scoring twice each to help the second-placed side prevail 4-1.

FC Schalke 04 began the second half of their season on a positive note, Marco Höger getting the only goal of the game against Hannover 96.
• Liga frontrunners Real Madrid CF recovered from conceding a first-minute goal to overcome Real Sociedad de Fútbol 4-1 with the help of a Karim Benzema double.

FC Basel 1893 lost 2-0 to TSV Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday as they continue their winter break before an 8 February return against Grasshopper Club Zürich.
FC Porto remain six points shy of Portuguese Liga leaders SL Benfica despite a 5-0 success against FC Paços de Ferreira, Ricardo Quaresma scoring twice.

• David Silva grabbed the equaliser as Manchester City earned a point at Stamford Bridge to stay in touch with leaders Chelsea.

Leverkusen dropped to sixth in the Bundesliga, with their single point against Dortmund allowing Schalke and FC Augsburg to overtake Roger Schmidt's men.
• Mario Mandžukić hit two as Club Atlético de Madrid defeated SD Eibar 3-1 to remain four points behind Real Madrid.

Arsenal FC drew level with fourth-placed Southampton FC following a stylish 5-0 home win against Aston Villa FC, the club's fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.
Monaco's strength at the back served them well as they held Ligue 1 pacesetters Lyon to a goalless draw on Sunday evening.
