After winning a fourth consecutive Scudetto Juventus completed the domestic double by beating SS Lazio 2-1 in extra time in the Coppa Italia final.
Substitute Alessandro Matri scored the winner in the Stadio Olimpico to keep hopes of a Bianconeri treble alive with a UEFA Champions League final still to come on 6 June. Juve had only previously won the double in 1960 and 1995 and had not lifted the cup in 20 years, but victory means they become the first team to win the Coppa Italia ten times.
"We played a great game tonight," Giorgio Chiellini said. "Lazio are in great form but we were very good to remain compact. The Berlin final is still far away. We have been waiting for this cup for many years, so we just want to celebrate now. We will start thinking about Barcelona in a few days."
With Claudio Marchisio and Álvaro Morata suspended, Massimiliano Allegri fielded Andrea Barzagli in a three-man defence and Fernando Llorente in attack alongside Carlos Tévez. Stefano Pioli also opted for three men at the back and Lazio took the lead after only four minutes when captain Ştefan Radu headed in a Danilo Cataldi free-kick.
Juve, however, quickly responded through their own skipper, as Chiellini found the net with an acrobatic volley from close range after Patrice Evra headed an Andrea Pirlo free-kick into the defender's path.
The game went to extra time as both teams failed to score another in a vibrant 90 minutes. Lazio went as close as it possibly gets when substitute Filip Đorđević saw a powerful shot hit one post, roll across the line and hit the other before bouncing out. It was Allegri's attacking substitution which decided the final with Matri beating Etrit Berisha with a precise low shot from inside the box.
"I'm very pleased with my players for what they did today and for the entire season," said the victorious coach. "Winning the double was not easy, let's see if we can add the third now and make our dream come true."
