Hakan Çalhanoğlu scored either side of a Javier Hernández goal in the second half as Leverkusen ran out comfortable winners.
Roma 1-1 Barcelona
Lionel Messi's 100th UEFA Champions League appearance ended in a draw at the scene of the holders' 2009 final triumph. Luis Suárez's opener was cancelled out by a spectacular long-distance strike from Alessandro Florenzi that caught Marc-André ter Stegen off his line.

Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 Arsenal
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's own goal set Dinamo on course for their first group stage victory since matchday three of the 1999/2000 campaign. Fernandes doubled the lead with a header, Theo Walcott pulling one back. Arsenal's cause was hampered by the 40th-minute dismissal of Olivier Giroud for two bookings.
Olympiacos 0-3 Bayern München
Thomas Müller broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half with a right-wing cross that sailed over Olympiacos keeper Roberto. Mario Götze rubber-stamped Bayern's success before Müller converted an added-time penalty.

Dynamo Kyiv 2-2 Porto
Vincent Aboubakar took his UEFA Champions League tally to five goals in as many outings with a goal in each half, his first making it 1-1 after Dynamo captain Oleh Gusev had put the hosts in front. Vitaliy Buyalskiy's 89th-minute intervention ensured parity at 2-2.
Chelsea 4-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv
Eden Hazard – normally so reliable from the spot – skied an early penalty, but his aberration did not prove costly. A free-kick from Willian that evaded everyone on its way in was added to by Oscar, who kept his composure after Diego Costa was brought down in the box, a Costa volley and Cesc Fàbregas.

Valencia 2-3 Zenit
Hulk quietened a big Mestalla crowd with two first-half goals. João Cancelo started the fightback, however, paving the way for André Gomes to level matters with 17 minutes remaining. Axel Witsel had the last word, though, giving Zenit their first triumph in Spain.
Gent 1-1 Olympique Lyonnais
Matz Sels saved Alexandre Lacazette's late spot kick as nine-man Gent salvaged a point from their first-ever group stage fixture. Down to ten after Brecht Dejaegere saw red on 41 minutes, the Belgian side equalised when Danijel Miličević cancelled out substitute Christophe Jallet's header. Thomas Foket was sent off in the lead-up to the penalty.
