Dortmund and Legia combine to smash goals records

Borussia Dortmund's 8-4 defeat of Legia Warszawa was the highest-scoring game in UEFA Champions League history and that was not the only record set by this match.

The goals flew in at BVB Stadion Dortmund tonight as the home side beat Legia Warszawa 8-4 – the highest-scoring game in UEFA Champions League history.

It was 5-2 to Borussia Dortmund at half-time, the same scoreline as when Monaco defeated Deportivo La Coruña 8-3 on 5 November 2003, the previous overall record-holder. Dortmund's eight-goal haul equals the most scored by a team in a UEFA Champions League fixture and Legia's four is the highest tally for a losing side.

The total of 32 goals in Legia's five matches so far (eight for and 24 against) has already overtaken the record of 31 set by eventual winners Manchester United in 1998/99. The 24 goals conceded is also equal to BATE Borisov's 2014/15 total.
