Portuguese champions FC Porto have confirmed the signing of Mexico international Héctor Herrera from Pachuca CF.

The 23-year-old midfielder has penned a four-year deal in a transfer that has cost Porto around €8m for 80% of the player rights. "I have fulfilled a dream in coming to a big club in Europe," said Herrera, who has eight caps and a release clause of €40m. "I've always had this goal and Porto gave me this opportunity."

Herrera was a member of the Mexico side that won gold at the London Olympics in 2012 alongside Diego Reyes – Porto's first signing ahead of the 2013/14 season – and played once for his country at this month's FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Porto, now coached by Paulo Fonseca, will start their European campaign in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
