Celtic FC forward Shaun Maloney faces a race against time to be fit for the start of the Glasgow club's UEFA Champions League campaign after discovering he needs a hernia operation.

Four-week absence
The 23-year-old sustained a groin injury during Celtic's pre-season trip to the United States and the surgery means he could be out of action for up to four weeks.
