"It's quite difficult to explain what happened exactly," says Andriy Shevchenko as he tries to make sense of AC Milan's stunning loss to Liverpool FC in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final.
The former Rossoneri and Ukraine forward had his penalty saved in the shoot-out as Liverpool completed a remarkable turnaround after trailing 3-0 at the interval, the Reds lifting the trophy following a game often referred to as 'the Miracle of Istanbul'.
"[In the] second half, [we] start the game well, have a few chances and in six minutes we have like … a blackout," recalls Shevchenko. "We lost just a little bit of something on the pitch and Liverpool came back, scored three goals and it was a hard game to recover [from]."
