Núñez arrives at Anfield

Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Spanish midfield player Antonio Núñez from Real Madrid CF.

Owen transfer
Núñez's switch to Anfield was announced last week as part of the deal that took England striker Michael Owen in the opposite direction. The 25-year-old has since passed a medical and trained with Liverpool for the first time today. He has agreed a three-year contract.

European eligibility
The right-sided player could make his Premiership debut this weekend against Manchester City FC. He could also be eligible for the UEFA Champions League group stage should Liverpool progress that far, having not featured in Madrid's 2-0 victory at Wisla Kraków in the third qualifying round last week. Liverpool won their first-leg tie by the same scoreline at Grazer AK.

New faces
Núñez made ten appearances last season, including an equalising goal on his debut as Madrid drew 1-1 with Villarreal CF. He is the second signing made by new Liverpool coach Rafael Benítez, following compatriot Josemi's arrival last month.
