FC Barcelona have signed the Brazilian full-back Sylvinho from RC Celta de Vigo.
Barcelona have offered Sylvinho a two-year contract, although the 30-year-old Brazilian will have to obtain a Spanish passport due to the number of non-European Union players already on their books. The club are confident that the process will be straightforward as Sylvinho has already met one of the principle demands needed to apply, having worked in Spain under contract for the minimum three-year period.
Sylvinho, who passed a medical at Barcelona's Sanitas clinic today, becomes coach Frank Rijkaard's fifth signing this summer after Henrik Larsson, Deco, Ludovic Giuly and Juliano Belletti. Celta, who were relegated to the Segunda División in May, will recoup around €2m for the former SC Corinthians Paulista and Arsenal FC player.
