PFC CSKA Moskva have made striker Dawid Janczyk their second summer signing, bringing him to Moscow from Legia Warszawa for a Polish record €4.2m fee.
Major splash
The 19-year-old, who is currently on international duty at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, scored nine goals in 42 league games in two seasons with Legia to win a move to Russia. He made a major impact at the 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in his home country, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win against Belgium, and has scored twice in three games at the U20 World Cup already to help Poland earn a meeting with holders Argentina in the last 16 on Thursday.
'Wow! Over €4m'
Legia vice-president Mirosław Trzeciak, CSKA and the player's agent concluded the deal in Janczyk's absence, with player saying: "My manager called me to inform about this transfer. Wow! Over €4m - I can't believe it." His move breaks the record set by Jakub Błaszczykowski's €3.7m transfer from Wisła Kraków to BV Borussia Dortmund in February. Regarded by many as the most exciting young forward in Polish football, he cost Legia just €6,000 from KKS Sandecja Nowy Sącz two years ago.
