German international defender Christian Pander will miss FC Schalke 04's UEFA Champions League tie at Rosenborg BK with a bruised left thigh.

Two injuries
The 24-year-old has been struggling with the injury since Germany's 2-0 UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying win against Wales and is also suffering from a cold. He played through the pain for 78 minutes of Friday's 1-0 Bundesliga win against Hertha BSC Berlin but was relieved to be replaced by Levan Kobiashvili. Schalke coach Mirko Slomka has not said who will replace Pander in Trondheim but said that the 19-year-old Benedikt Höwedes is a "potential candidate and interesting player for this position".
