Manchester United FC's preparations for their Premier League title defence have been given a boost by the news Park Ji-Sung has signed a new contract at Old Trafford.

The Korea Republic midfielder has agreed terms on a deal that will ensure he remains a Manchester United player until at least the end of the 2012/13 season. "I'm delighted to be part of the club during this latest stage in its history – with another exciting young team being built," he told the United website.

Signed in 2005 from PSV Eindhoven, the 30-year-old has won four Premier League titles, the FIFA Club World Cup and three League Cups. Left out of the squad for United's triumph on penalties in the 2008 UEFA Champions League final against Chelsea FC, he has twice finished on the losing side in Europe's showpiece club game, against FC Barcelona in 2009 and 2011.

United, who start their domestic campaign at West Bromwich Albion FC on Sunday, will discover their UEFA Champions League group stage opponents when the draw is made in Monaco on 25 August.
