Inter captain Zanetti shows Milito brotherly love

Javier Zanetti appeared to take as much pleasure from Diego Milito's goal as he did FC Internazionale Milano's defeat of LOSC Lille Métropole, saying: "He is like a brother to me".

It was another inspiring performance from FC Internazionale Milano's Javier Zanetti, whose delight was as much for a long-awaited goal for Diego Milito, the fellow Argentinian he described as "like a brother to me", as it was the 2-1 victory against LOSC Lille Métropole that moved Inter four points clear in UEFA Champions League Group B. Lille goalscorer Túlio De Melo took comfort in Les Dogues' qualifying prospects remaining intact despite the reverse leaving them three points adrift of second place, saying: "We will give everything to win our last two matches."

Javier Zanetti, Inter defender
I am pleased that we won and I am particularly happy for Diego Milito, because it was very important for him to score and get off the mark again. He knows full well that he is like a brother to me. These goal droughts can happen to strikers but he always offers so much more to the side and so I would like to congratulate him.

Walter Samuel also scored and he is a very important player for us. Slowly but surely we our getting our injured players back and we hope to do well in the league too now. Throughout my career I have always believed in hard work and this side works its socks off, gives everything, tries hard and sooner or later things will turn around in Serie A.

After losing to Juventus this was a great reaction by us. It is not so much consistency of our performances but the consistency of results that have been lacking. When we manage to string one, two or three wins together we will grow in confidence.

Luca Castellazzi, Inter goalkeeper
It was a shame to concede late on because at that point they looked as though they had given up the ghost, but then they got back into the match very cheaply. But after that we closed down the final minutes very well, were very concentrated and they didn't come close to getting into our penalty area. We were made to sweat it out a bit, which made the victory all the sweeter. Overall it was a strong performance and we could have scored four or five goals.

Túlio De Melo, Lille striker
We started the match very well, we had more possession than they did to begin with and we controlled things but then, like all the big teams, when they don't score from open play they score from set pieces. That was the case with Inter and then they began to enjoy more possession and protect their lead.

We played quite well until they scored unexpectedly but Samuel's goal changed the match completely. It's hard enough as it is to play against the big teams but when you go behind it makes life very difficult indeed. The good news of the evening is that they other group match finished in a draw so we still have a chance to go through and we will give everything to win our last two matches.

It was great to score. It is a real confidence booster as I have been out for a while, so to come back and score in a stadium as famous as this one is a great pleasure. It would have been nice to have come away with a win as well but that wasn't possible.

Mathieu Debuchy, Lille defender
We are disappointed because we felt we had what it took to win tonight but unfortunately we didn't manage it. But all is not lost, we still have a chance to qualify. We must win the next two matches and then we should go through so nothing is decided yet.

Playing in the Champions League is a step up in standard and the intensity is much greater than in league matches, but we have played some good matches in Europe. It's just unfortunate we have fallen short when it comes to scoring goals. We should score more, but then again we could concede less too so it's not only up front where we need to improve.
