PFC CSKA Moskva have signed midfielder Pontus Wernbloom from AZ Alkmaar on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Wernbloom, 25, is the UEFA Champions League contenders' second January recruit after forward Ahmed Musa arrived from Alkmaar's Eredivisie rivals VVV Venlo earlier this week. The Swedish international has already joined up with his new team-mates at their Spanish training base in Campoamor.

Having begun his career at IFK Göteborg, Wernbloom moved to then champions AZ in summer 2009 and leaves them at the Eredivisie summit, having also helped the Dutch club progress through the UEFA Europa League group stage unbeaten. He made his senior Sweden debut in January 2007 and was a regular squad member in their successful UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign.

CSKA, second in the extended Russian Premier-Liga – six points behind FC Zenit St Petersburg at the winter break – face Real Madrid CF in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, staging the first leg on 21 February before a trip to Spain on 14 March.
