Seydou Doumbia, CSKA Moskva forward
[The key] was our mentality, we had a lot of determination and we managed to win. I was very focused from the start, and I have to say that I was a bit surprised to be in the squad today. Thank God everything went well. I think I've come far because I was injured until now.

I was not surprised [to win]. We believed in our chances and we fought hard. Then the win followed. Football is football. We will take it game by game, and we hope to win the next games in order to qualify. Roma and us have four points. Roma played Bayern tonight, and we hope things will go well for us and that we will qualify.

Pontus Wernbloom, CSKA Moskva midfielder
We knew they would attack in number and would be vulnerable to counterattacks. We played really well in that aspect of the game, we managed to counter them. In the first half we had a lot of chances and we should have scored more than two goals in this game but we were not as efficient as we wanted to be. But we took three points and that is a very good result for us.

[Seydou Doumbia] loves scoring. When this guy is fit, he is a fantastic football player. In Russia he scores in almost every game so he is a fantastic striker. We know when he is on the pitch he can beat any team because if they give us some space he is deadly. We have played City four times now in two years and we know they are going to give us space. We know that Doumbia is faster than them and if we just get the first pass away when they press us, we know we can counter them.

Joe Hart, City goalkeeper
We had a bad night all round. We never usually do that. It was a strange performance because two or three players can have a bad game and the rest of us will get them through, but we struggled as a team on the whole. We were disjointed. I don't think individually we had good games and added together that left us with a mountain to climb and conceding simple goals and not really getting it together up front.

[Conceding] is something that we don't take lightly. It is happening far too much but like I say we are going to have to really dig deep as a team. We are a good team and we have got depth and we have got ability and we are going to put it altogether. It is still mathematically possible [to qualify] and it is definitely more than possible if we win our two games but we are really disappointed at the situation we have got ourselves in. It is tough to take the draws and tough to take the two losses.

Ahmed Musa, CSKA Moskva forward
[Doumbia] is very good. Today he had a great game and he gave us the win so I am very happy about that. I am not surprised because we [saw] in Moscow that we could win this game. That is why you saw today that we played a very good game.

We have a very big chance [to qualify] after winning today. We have to just go back home and work very hard to see if we can win the next home game. With the victory today we have very big confidence.

Leonid Slutski, CSKA Moskva coach
We went with Plan B and hoped to utilise the counterattack – our plan worked; we had chances in the first and second halves. We have become stronger since the last match against Manchester City. We are full of optimism and that optimism gives us an advantage.

Obviously City had a very important match against Manchester United at the weekend and they probably didn't have time to recover. We had an extra day and that probably had some impact on the match.

In the first game in Moscow, Seydou Doumbia could hardly walk, but even limping he managed to score a goal and win a penalty. Before today's match he didn't have much preparation because of the injury. Bearing that in mind, he deserves to be labelled a hero.

Manuel Pellegrini, City coach
It's difficult to understand why we put in such a low performance. We just played a good game against Manchester United, we had our chances to win here at home, but if you give away two goals in the first half and you really don't play with the ball, then it's very difficult to win.

Of course if you have mathematical possibilities to qualify you must fight for them. First we have to play against QPR, then there is the international break; after that we are going to try to qualify for the next stage. It's more difficult now but not impossible.

CSKA are a good team and that's why they are champions of Russia. If you give a good team so many advantages in a game it's easy for them.
